Customer Testimony
Good, hot, tasty, fresh unaffected Chinese food is getting more difficult to find. This place delivers. We have never had poor service nor cold food here. Orders are promptly taken and the food is served piping hot. The staff is friendly, and our server often remembers what we ordered the last time we came in. I recommend that you give it a try. Elton T.
My husband and I include this place in one of our date nights. Food is good. I've never been disappointed with the exception that the crab Rangoon only has cream cheese. Other than that I stick to my basic lemon chicken fried rice hot jasmine tea. I love the piano music. Sometimes we just sit here and listen. I will continue to include this place on date night.Shirley S.
This was my fourth visit to May Dragon, and I really dig this place. A lovely intimate wood interior greats you, as well as a surprisingly ample dining space that's sectioned off and makes every table feel intimate.
I love their spring rolls with yummy cabbage, so hot and crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I also love their chicken drumsticks, which are also perfectly crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside.
Subsequently the Hot and Sour soup is nicely spiced with just the right amount of heat. I do think the soup could be warmer, though.
One day I'll have to venture off my usual choices of the excellent Moo Goo Gai Pan and Beef and Broccoli and try something new. The portions are perfectly doled out for one satisfying serving and all of the ingredients are super fresh and always hot.
The service here has never been anything other than attentive and friendly. This is American Chinese in the best possible fashion. And I'm already looking forward to my next visit! by Rat S.
First, the ambience and environment have to be up to par. May Dragon is definitely upscale. After being in many hole in the walls in Richardson, Plano, Garland, it doesn't take a genius to know that they actually spent money on interior design. Plus, there is a live pianist on weekends playing jazz and classical music. Not many Chinese restaurants have live entertainment in DFW, if at all. The dining area is cozy quiet and romantic. If you are expecting loud, noisy PF Changs, this is not it. This is not a wipe-the-table after you eat place. Each table has a white table cloth and cloth napkins folded nicely. The restaurant is partitioned into different rooms w tables and some booths. When we go, we always get a comfy booth. Also, the bar is very nicely laid out in the front of the restaurant and seems very imposing, though must be because I'm not a drinker.
Second, service has to be there. I noticed that all servers and busboys all wear the standard white shirt, black vest, bow tie uniform. Though the servers seem to be 1st generation immigrants from what I noticed, they were always smiling and friendly, though they have an accent when speaking English. I don't mind as long as they understand and can take my order and serve my food efficiently! I would rate service as above average, especially compared to the many Chinese restaurants where servers just give you angry stares and throw your food on the table and disappear. At May Dragon, they've always checked on me quite frequently for drink refills and to see how I'm doing.
Last, the most important IMO is the food, which I give muchos kudos because it is really good!!! Sesame chicken, general savitz chicken, peking duck, beef tenderloin, those are just some of my favorite dishes. I could go on and on. The meat and vegetables are fresh and high quality. How do I assess that? Well first off, I think it's pretty obvious by tasting the texture of the meat, the chewiness factor, etc. Lower quality meat at hole-in-the-wall places taste rubbery and don't have the stranded protein texture of fresh meat. It's hard to explain but if you've patronized many different places, it's easier to compare. Next, even though the menu says No MSG, which is pretty standard print these days, I never believe it unless it passes my water test. If 30 minutes after I eat and all throughout the night, I have to gulp down glass after glass of water, then my friend, I have consumed stupendous amounts of MSG. But that is never the case after dining at May Dragon which by my assessment confirms that no MSG is used, which I am thankful for as I do need to watch my health!
Portions are large so usually if I'm on a date, I may order an appetizer and 2 entrees and still have leftovers to take home. So factoring all of the above, I think it's not a bad value and comparable to say going out for Italian, Mexican, a neighborhood grill, etc. Usually comes out to around $35-50 including tax and tip depending on what I order, but the experience is better and more romantic than the aforementioned. Especially if I go on Fri or Sat night, I know I'm getting bonus points from my date for the live music!
So FWIW, make sure to checkout the many "filtered" yelp reviews that share the same experiences I've had. I noticed the featured ones are very skewed to the extreme and do not reflect the great dining experiences I've had there. More people should definitely try it. Honey W.
I went to dine there when I visited Addison and thought the food was delicious, service was attentive and overall had a great experience. That's saying a lot coming from the SF Bay Area where we have really good Asian cuisine.
I had a really warm, savory seafood soup to start which was nice right after my flight. But the dish I remember the most was the smoked tea duck. I don't even usually eat duck, but others at the table ordered it. It was sooooo good. I still crave it.
The drinks were fun. I got a cocktail, and it came with umbrellas, which was a nice kitschy touch. Finally, the service was good - polite, expedient, friendly. by lily l.
I had a chance to go to upscale Chinese Cuisine and this place was one of the best place I've been to while visiting the town for business. The owner was a former mayor of the Addison and him and his wife were very nice and pleasant to talk to. Food was great! Nice interior and clean setting unlike usual Chinese takeout places. Highly Recommend for those who like good Chinese cuisine in upscale environment!!! by Shawn L.
2014 Annual Bottling Day Customer Service Award for consistent great food and service during the past year. I believe that many of the people who come in and give low ratings are plants of competitors and political rivals who are deliberately trying to sabotage the owners. The restaurant wouldn't win this annual award from us if they didn't deserve it! by Diana L.
Wonderful place. Years ago we would come to Addison to eat at Forbidden City, a classic San Francisco old school restaurant. Seems like most of those have gone away and many Chinese restaurants are either buffet or fusion. May Dragon is just like we remember the forbidden city experience. Food is great (although the waiter gave us a warning about some people not liking the tea smoked duck due to being too authentic ... It was fabulous), Victor the waiter was excellent, and we are leaving as happy eaters. Go to May!! by Jamie S.Dallas, TX
*I really, genuinely cannot understand why this restaurant should deserve anything less than a four-star review. by David W. Carrollton, TX
Every time we've dined here for the past SEVENTEEN YEARS has been a pleasant and enjoyable experience. I'm beginning to wonder if some of the vaguely-worded reviews lacking in details concerning what the reviewer was dissatisfied with are genuine and/or in keeping with Yelp policy.
If you've never been here before, you owe it to yourself to give May Dragon a try. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
JOE 對歌舞很拿手,他最喜歡唱的歌是MY WAY,每每把歌詞沒成MAY DRAGON’S WAY,只因為MAY DRAGON是五福樓的英文名字。

*Dined here so many times over the years for both personal and business lunches/dinners, always a pleasant experience. by Marilyn M. Dallas, TX
Puzzled @ some of the negative reviews. However, acknowledge that it's been several years since my last visit until last week. So maybe something did change over time for the worse, but for me on this recent visit, it met my expectations. Thanks to "Mr Bear" (and Mrs Bear's) recent review, I was reminded to go back; and it looks like MD is back up to its excellent food standards, as I remember them.
On to my quest to find some darn good Dan Dan Noodles. I have found that not all Chinese restaurants offer this dish. It's not listed on May Dragon's menu, but ask and ye shall receive; beef, chicken, pork or shrimp are added meat options.
Noodles were cooked perfectly. to the right degree of tenderness. OMG, the peanut sauce was so creamy, drinkable for sure. I wanted more on my dish however, and requested extra on the side. Accommodated immediately. The white meat chicken was moist, so tender, melt in the mouth protein. Loved all the flavors, with the lettuce and bean sprouts along the side of the dish, Didn't care for the shredded carrots, but, my bad. Should have remembered to eliminate those. This dish was excellent and so flavorful. A definite "4".
Also had a cup of the hot and sour soup; YUM YUM ! The heat was just right for my wimpy palate. Loved the soft tofu, and tender chicken slices. Add the fried wontons to soak in the thick savory broth for a yumalicious starter dish. Hit the spot on a chilly afternoon.
Amy was a nice friendly server; although she did not check on me often, she was nearby. I was the only patron @ 1530 but did not go neglected once I got her attention. I often go to restaurants during what I determine as "sleepy modes:", between lunch and dinner, so service may not be typical. However, received a cheerful "thanks for coming by" when I was leaving.
Loved the quiet serene atmosphere; soft background music, the several separate semi-private dining rooms, but most of all, my most comfy large leather booth. Hues of mustard and rustic orange colors cover the wall along with paintings, blonde and dark woods, and dim low Chinese Lantern type lighting. Nice bar area as you walk in.
Have tried many dishes in the past; house special fried rice, soupy noodles, Moo Shi pork, etc. all of which were delish. Yes, I will return to this restaurant of past delights to once again enjoy good Chinese fare. Many say it's not authentic Chinese. No matter, I just simply like it !!
